INSTRUCTIONS ON TRANSPORTATION, CREMATION, AND CROSS-BORDER ENTRY OF A FOREIGNER DECEASED IN MONGOLIA

The Funeral Services Association, a member of ICCFA headquartered in the USA, ACCA in Australia, NFDA, and FIAT-IFTA in European countries, organizes funerals for foreign individuals who have passed away in Mongolia. We repatriate their bodies or ashes under a contract with the deceased person’s family or agent, in accordance with our membership commitments.

For inquiries about the services provided by the Funeral Services Association NGO or to determine the expenses of these services, please email the following information and documents to info@mfa.mn, or call 80030660.

  1. Foreign passport of the deceased.
  2. Current location of the body of the deceased (hospital, rural area).
  3. Information about the family or contact person of the deceased.

Documents required for transporting the body or ashes of the deceased:

  1. Foreign passport of the deceased (original).

Note: If the documentation of the deceased is lost, a temporary passport or relevant document must be obtained by contacting the Embassy of the country of the deceased.

  1. A family member of the deceased or, if unavailable, an agent of the deceased shall obtain a Power of Attorney from the Embassy of the country of the deceased. This authorization allows for the transportation of the body.
  2. Form AM-7, containing information on the cause of death. This form should be obtained from the hospital currently in possession of the deceased’s body.
  3. An autopsy /mandatory for deceased foreigners in Mongolia/ must be obtained from the relevant authority.
  4. An official letter from the relevant police agency.
  5. The family member or authorized agent of the deceased must submit a request to the “State Registration Authority of the Capital City” to obtain a Death certificate, which must be translated by an official translation bureau.
  6. If the body is cremated, a letter must be obtained from Ulaanbaatar Buyan LLC (original copy).
  7. Funeral Services Association NGO will obtain relevant letters if it is acting as an agent for the deceased.
  8. An autopsy report must be obtained from the Forensic agency /if requested/.

Cross-border entry of ashes or body:

The aforementioned documents must be prepared in five copies and submitted, along with their certified translations, to the Embassy of the country of the deceased for review and stamp on the translations.

The set of documents certified by the Embassy must be submitted to the transportation company and will be transported with the body/ashes.
